A Joint Research Effort on the Future of EU Governance
As the European Union continues to evolve, one enduring challenge remains: How member states balance the advantages of deeper integration with the desire to retain control over key national policy areas. Over the next four years, a team of political scientists and legal scholars - led by Prof. Markus Jachtenfuchs of the Jacques Delors Centre at the Hertie School - will explore how this trade-off has been negotiated between EU institutions and member states, and why its configuration has varied over time. This research project, Reconfiguring Europe, is funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) and the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF).
